I’ve always been a fan of street style photography and there are a handful of blogs I visit on nearly a daily basis. The Sartorialist is an easy favorite, but blogs based in smaller cities, especially closer to home, are ones I frequent just as much. Enter Angel Verde, the man behind the camera of Angel’s POV. Based in Virginia but traveling throughout the Southeast, Angel captures the best of what Southern style has to offer - a region that is underrepresented in terms of street style. I first met Angel over two years ago when he visited Richmond to photograph and have kept up with him since. The pictures on the left are photographs Angel has taken during his many trips to Charleston. The resurgence of menswear has been well documented over the last couple of years and these photographs are a strong sample of this resurgence's influence on Southern style. When I think about the style of Charleston and the South overall, it is just as steeped in tradition as that of our New England neighbors. This time around, clothing is more tailored and I've noticed the combination of formal and casual ways of dressing. This is good news as I'll always tip my hat to a sharp dresser. We are in Charleston just in time for the conclusion of Charleston Fashion Week. If you find yourself in Charleston, be on the lookout for Angel and make sure to stop by the Ledbury Charleston Pop-Up Shop that will be open Thursday evening - Sunday. Visit the Facebook event page for more information. *Photographs by Angel Verde for Angel’s POV.
