Annual 3

When it comes to shopping, some of you may follow my method of subscribing to a handful of emails from retailers and brands, keeping up with new product releases from time-to-time, and engaging in the occasional impulse buy. I don’t shop all the time, but I cast a wide net. I know what I like and will go for it when the timing is right.

On the other hand, not everyone shops this way. I have a few friends who take the annual haul approach. For them, shopping is a once-per-year ordeal. They make their lists, come as close as possible to stocking up on inventory for the next 12 months, and they’re done with it until next January. Like many things in life, shopping is the kind of activity where there’s no right or wrong way to accomplish it. It’s just a matter of getting it done. If you’re reading this, I assume that you consciously make some sort of effort into looking presentable and, well, that’s the final goal after all. There was a time in my life when I visited the mall more often than I would like to admit and I still visit my fair share of e-commerce websites. Over time, through an unintentional method of trial and error, I learned the benefits of taking a more pragmatic approach to shopping. Not only does it save time, it cuts down on waste. With a well-edited wardrobe, you’re able to do more with less. Your outfit options grow exponentially as you gain the ability to mix-and-match pieces. Before I buy something, I try to think, “Ok, what else can I wear this with?” If the answer is “plenty,” then my credit card is handed over without hesitation. Some call this minimalism. Some call this living without excess. Whatever you call it, this is something I endorse, because intention is something that will never go out of style. Whether you’re planning to re-stock your wardrobe in one sweeping haul or choose to take the gradual route, I scoured the Internet and did the dirty work so you don’t have to. Here’s a roundup of my picks for the items that are sure to get you through 2015.
