We had such a great time at last year’s inaugural quail hunt that we decided to make a tradition of it. We returned to the Orapax Hunting Preserve, located just a short drive outside of the city, a couple of weekends ago for an afternoon of organized quail hunting with a handful of our customers, close friends and members of our team.

After meeting at the clubhouse the morning of the hunt, we divided into groups of five along with a hunting guide and a trio of hunting dogs. We couldn’t have picked a better day to hunt on the 700-acres of land at the preserve. The temperatures were perfect and we were treated to blue skies. You won’t find a better organized-hunting experience in the Commonwealth -- the gorgeous fields of swaying tall grass, incredibly helpful guides and impressively-trained hunting dogs. The groups included a range of seasoned and, well, less-seasoned hunters. Despite skill level, we all managed to take home a few birds even if there were a few unsettled debates over who actually targeted which birds. We also spotted several Chukar partridges and pheasants, which are incredibly beautiful birds to witness in flight. An afternoon of hunting worked up the appetite and we returned to the clubhouse after the hunt for an after-party complete with barbeque, bluegrass from Sturgeon City and, the best part about hunting, stories from the game field. The party went on until sunset and was the perfect way to end the day. We were pleased to find that our shirts worked as well on the field as they do in the office. We considered this positive assurance of Ledbury’s versatility. Spending time with the many people who help make Ledbury possible is always a welcomed gathering and we couldn’t have asked for a better time. We’re already looking forward to quail hunt number three next year.
