In addition to finding me here, I also have my own blog, Dirty Richmond, which I started back in 2009 as a way to spotlight the people and culture here in Richmond, Virginia. Over the weekend, I was ecstatic to find out that Dirty Richmond landed a spot on Complex.com’s list of the 10 Best Men’s Style Blogs From Around the U.S. This is what Complex had to say: "The great thing about the Virginia capital is how much of a hodgepodge the city's culture is. You've got its Southern prep roots, which definitely have a foothold, but you also have plenty of thriving subcultures and a surprisingly bustling creative economy. Dirty Richmond snaps interesting snapshots at where all these different types of people intersect, and how awesome they all look." This hodgepodge of culture naturally provides a depth of interesting subjects to photograph, whether it's a sophisticated gentleman wearing a navy blazer or a student rocking a denim vest on their bicycle. During interviews, I'm often asked to describe Richmond's style. While it's hard to narrow it down to one particular look, our city's Southern roots, the handful of Richmond-based retailers and people's authenticity are a clear influence. This combination of factors gives people the necessary foundation to set the direction for their own style. In recent years, there has been a collective push across the country of people settling into smaller cities and signaling what is going on there. I’m proud to be from Richmond and I'm happy to have a platform to share what is going on inside of this "best kept secret" of a town.
