We’re of the belief that a good haircut is as transformative as a perfectly-fitting shirt. We’re also lucky to have one of the best barbershops in the country here in Richmond, VA. High Point Barbershop opened in 2014 and quickly became the place every guy you know goes for a cut (or straight razor, or beard trim). Skilled barbers, fair prices, and a shop that combines old-school nostalgia with modern furnishings are just a few of the reasons that we look forward to our monthly visits. Elliott Kinney is our go-to guy at High Point, and as co-owner is helping keep the trade of barbering alive and well -- and making Richmond look a lot better too.

If you weren't a barber what would you be?

Well, I can answer that in two ways. I came to barbering from food service. I enjoyed talking with people behind the bar and making their dinners enjoyable. If I had not become a barber, I would probably have become a restaurant manager or maybe tried to open my own restaurant. But if I were to move on from barbering now, I would like to be a farmer on a small farm and working in the garden every day. I love to be outside.

What advice would you give your 20-year-old self?

I would tell me that “You have the rest of your life to make up for any mistake that you make so don’t be afraid to make one.”

What is your idea of perfect happiness?

My job is great, and I’m getting married in May, so I’m getting pretty close to perfect happiness! Here's the scenario I envision: When we have kids, and I have her family and mine together for Thanksgiving. After dinner, we’re sitting around the fire telling stories of the past and sharing dreams of the future. That’ll be my perfect happiness.
